Ron's extensive career history in meat and livestock began in 1973, when he started as an extension officer with NSW Department of Agriculture. This included time in Cobar and Cootamundra helping producers improve their sheep, wool, goat and beef enterprises.
Ron has over 10 years senior management experience in NSW Agriculture and the NSW Departments of Land and Water Conservation and Water Resources. In 2000, he embarked on a successful and diverse career path within the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry. He was the Director of Natural Resource Management for three years before moving into the role of Director, Meat and Livestock. During this time Ron worked in policy and program development to improve export competitiveness of our red meat and livestock industries.
Ron extended his work in international market access in 2006 when he moved to Manager - America and Europe, within the International Division.
Here he provided policy and strategic leadership to improve market access for agricultural products to America and Europe. He also provided advice on agricultural trade issues to Australia's representative to the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
More recently he worked in the Office of the Hon. Tony Burke, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry. In addition, as part of the Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service (AQIS) he managed a small team to maintain and improve international market access for Australian red meat products. This experience added to Ron's specialist knowledge on red meat market access issues. |
