The Sheepmeat Council of Australia (SCA) is the prescribed industry body for the purpose of s.59 of the Australian Meat and Livestock Act 1997. As such, SCA is responsible for managing and making recommendations to the Minister of Agriculture on the distribution of the lamb and sheep transaction levy income.

![]() ![]() The flow of sheepmeat levy funds and the performance of the levy funded organisations are closely monitored and scrutinised by SCA.
The legislation stipulates that the transaction levy shall be collected at an ad valorem rate of 2% for both adult sheep and lambs (table 1). For lambs, the levy shall not exceed the value of $1.50 and shall not be applicable for lambs valued at less that $5.00. For adult sheep, the levy shall not exceed the value of $0.20c and shall not be applicable for adult sheep valued at less that $5.00.
